Star performers

Three-time Olympic champion Natasa Janics and six-time medalist Katalin Kovacs won canoeing gold together in the K-2 event in Beijing and Athens. They are hoping to defend their title for a third time in London, as is individual canoeing champion Attila Vajda, who won the 1000m canoe sprint in 2008. Swimmer László Cseh also deserves a mention after he won three silver medals in Beijing in the 400m individual medley, the 200m butterfly and the 200m individual medley. He is hoping to bring home gold in 2012 but faces stiff competition against the indisputable champion Michael Phelps. Krisztián Pars won the recent European Championships for the hammer throw and came second in the world championships last year with a throw of 81.18metres. Historically, Hungary’s best Olympian is seven-time gold fencing medallist Aladar Gerevich. Many see him as the greatest swordsman of all time.
